Heb. 4:14–5:6; Mk. 8:34–9:1;

Liturgy of St. Basil the Great.

Resurrectional Tropar, Tone 3

Let the heavens rejoice. Let the earth be glad. For the Lord has shown strength with His Arm. He has trampled Death by death. He has become the First-born of the Dead. He has delivered us from the depths of Hades and has granted the world great mercy.

Tropar of the Cross, Tone 1

O Lord, save Your people and bless Your inheritance. Grant victory to Orthodox Christians over their adversaries; and by virtue of Your Cross, preserve Your community.

Tropar of Annunciation, Tone 4

Today is the beginning of salvation, the revelation of the Eternal Mystery. The Son of God becomes the Son of the Virgin, as Gabriel announces the coming of Grace. Together with Him let us cry out to the Birth-Giver of God: Rejoice, Lady Full of Grace, the Lord is with you.

Glory …
Kondak of the Cross, Tone 7

The flaming sword no longer guards the gates of Paradise. It has been mysteriously extinguished by the Wood of the Cross. The sting of death and the victory of Hades have been vanquished. For You, O my Savior, came and cried to those in Hades; enter again, into Paradise.

Now and Ever…
Kondak of Annunciantion, Tone 8

To you, unconquerable Lady, Birth-Giver of God, we, your triumphant servants, having been delivered from dangers, offer hymns of thanksgiving. Lady of invincible might, free us from all dangers that we may cry to you: "Rejoice, Unwedded Bride".

Instead of the Thrice-Holy Hymn

Before Your Cross we bow down, O Master and Your Holy Resurrection we glorify.

Epistles

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, for both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: "I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You." And again: "I will put My trust in Him." And again: "Here am I and the children whom God has given Me." Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Letter of St. Paul to the Hebrews.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness. Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins. And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was. So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You." As He also says in another place: "You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek".

Priest: Peace be with you.

Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Verse: He shall come down as rain upon a fleece: And as the dew which falls upon the earth.

Verse: His Name shall be blessed forever: His Name shall continue longer than the sun.

Verse: Remember Your congregation You acquired from the beginning.

Instead of It is Right in Truth…

Announce good tidings of great joy, all the earth. You heavens praise the glory of God.

Irmos Tone 4: Let no profane hand touch the living Ark of God, but let the lips of the faithful cry aloud in great joy to the Birth-Giver of God: Rejoice, Lady Full of Grace; the Lord is with you.

Communion Verses

The Lord has elected Zion, He has chosen her as a habitation for Himself. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

The light of Your Countenance, O Lord, has been signed upon us. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
