Propers for March 17, 2024

Mar. 17 – Cheesefare Sunday, of Forgiveness Tone 8

Expulsion of Adam from the Paradise of Bliss. St. Gerasimus of the Jordan (475). St. Julian, patriarch of Alexandria (189). St. James the Faster of Phoenicia (Syria) (6th c.). Martyr Wenceslaus, prince of the Czechs (938). Blessed Basil (Basilko), prince of Rostov (1238)

Rom. 13:11–14:4; Mt. 6:14-21;

The Last day before the Great Lent

Resurrectional Tropar, Tone 8

You descended from on High, Merciful One. You accepted the three day burial to free us from our passions. Lord, our Life and Resurrection. Glory to You.

Tropar of our church, Tone 4

Prophet and Forerunner of the coming of Christ, we who honor you with love can find no manner of praising you worthily. For the barrenness of one who bore you and the silence of your father have been ended by your being born of divine grace and you have proclaimed to the world the Incarnation of the Son of God.

Glory …
Kondak of our church, Tone 3

She who was previously barren now bears the Forerunner of Christ who is the fulfillment of every prophecy. For the prophets proclaimed beforehand that having laid hands on Him in the Jordan, he would be manifest as Prophet, Preacher and Forerunner of the Word of God.

Now and Ever …
Kondak from Triodion, Tone 6

O Master, Guide to wisdom, Giver of prudent counsel, Instructor of the foolish and Champion of the poor; make my heart steadfast by granting it understanding. O Word of the Father, grant me words, for behold, I shall not stop my lips from crying out to You: I am fallen, have mercy on me in Your Compassion.

Prokimen

Priest: Let us be attentive! Peace be with you all!

Reader: And with your spirit!

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The Prokimen in Tone 8: Pray and make your vows before the Lord, our God.

Choir: (repeats the prokimen)

Reader: Vs: In Judah God is known: His Name is great in Israel.

Choir: (repeats the prokimen)

Reader: Pray and make your vows  …

Choir: … before the Lord, our God.

Epistle

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.

Priest: Peace be with you.

Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Alleluia Verses

Verse: It is good to give praise to the Lord, and to sing unto Your Name, O Most High.

Verse: To declare Your mercy in the morning and your Truth by night.

Communion Hymns

Praise the Lord from the Heavens; praise Him in the Highest. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
