Propers for August 25, 2024
Aug. 25 – 9th Sunday after Pentecost. Tone 8
Afterfeast of the Transfiguration. Martyrs Anicetus and Photius (Photinus) of Nicomedia (305). Hieromartyr Alexander, bishop of Comana (3rd c.). Martyrs Pamphilus and Capito.
1 Cor. 3:9-17; Mt. 14:22-34;
Tropar Resurrectional, Tone 8
You descended from on High, Merciful One. You accepted the three day burial to free us from our passions. Lord, our Life and Resurrection. Glory to You.
Tropar of the Feast, Tone 7
You were transfigured on the mountain, Christ God, revealing Your Glory to Your disciples as far as they could bear it. Let Your Everlasting Light shine on us sinners. Through the prayers of the Birth-Giver of God, Giver of Light, glory to You.
Tropar of our church, Tone 4
Prophet and Forerunner of the coming of Christ,/ we who honor you with love can find no manner of praising you worthily./ For the barrenness of one who bore you / and the silence of your father have been ended by your being born of divine grace / and you have proclaimed to the world / the Incarnation of the Son of God.
Tropar to Martyrs, Tone 4
Your holy martyrs Anicetus and Photius, O Lord, / through their sufferings have received incorruptible crowns from You, our God. / For having Your strength, they laid low their adversaries, / and shattered the powerless boldness of demons. / Through their intercessions, save our souls!
Kondak Resurrectional, Tone 8
By rising from the tomb, You raised up the dead. Adam is risen and Eve exults in Your Resurrection. The entire world celebrates Your rising from the dead, Greatly Merciful One.
Glory …
Kondak of our church, Tone 3
She who was previously barren / now bears the Forerunner of Christ / who is the fulfillment of every prophecy. / For the prophets proclaimed beforehand / that having laid hands on Him in the Jordan, / he would be manifest as Prophet, / Preacher / and Forerunner of the Word of God.
Now and ever ...
Kondak of Feast, Tone 7
When You were transfigured on the mountain, Christ God, Your disciples saw as much of Your Glory as they could bear. So that when they looked upon You being crucified, they would understand that You suffered freely and proclaim to the world that You are indeed the radiance of the Father's Glory.

Epistle
Deacon: Wisdom!
Reader: The reading is from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.
Deacon: Let us be attentive.
Reader: Brethren, we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
Priest: Peace be with you.
Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Verse: Come let us rejoice in the Lord. Let us shout with jubilation to God our Savior.
Verse: Let us come before His Face with thanksgiving; with psalms let us shout in jubilation to Him.
Verse: The Heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours.
Instead of "It is right in truth"
Magnify, my soul, the Lord Who was Transfigured on Tabor.
Irmos, Tone 4: Your birth-giving was undefiled. God came forth from your womb and He appeared on earth in the flesh, making His dwelling among mortals. Therefore, Birth-Giver of God, we all magnify you.
Communion Verse
Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the Highest. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Lord, we will walk in the light of Your Countenance and exult in Your Name forever. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
