St. John the Baptist - Св. Іоанн Хреститель

Propers for January 28, 2024

Jan. 28 – 34 Sunday after Pentecost. Tone 1

Venn. Paul of Thebes (341), and John Calabytes (450). Monk-martyr Pansophius (249-251). Ven. Prochorus and Ven. Gabriel (XI).

Col. 3:12-16; Lk. 18:18-27;
Gal. 5:22–6:2; Mt. 11:27-30

Resurrectional Tropar, Tone 1

When the stone had been sealed by the Jews, while the soldiers were guarding Your Most-Pure Body, You arose on the Third Day, Savior, granting Life to the world. Therefore, the Powers of Heaven cried to You Giver of Life: Glory to Your Resurrection, Christ. Glory to Your Kingdom. Glory to Your Divine Plan, only Lover of Mankind.

Tropar of our church, Tone 4

Prophet and Forerunner of the coming of Christ, we who honor you with love can find no manner of praising you worthily. For the barrenness of one who bore you and the silence of your father have been ended by your being born of divine grace and you have proclaimed to the world the Incarnation of the Son of God.

Tropar to the Venn. Paul & John, Tone 4

O God of our fathers, deal ever with us according to Your gentleness; do not take Your mercy from us, but by their supplications govern our life in peace.

Resurrectional Kondak, Tone 1

As God, You arose from the tomb in glory, raising the world with Yourself. Human nature praises You as God for death has vanished. Adam exults, Master. Eve, freed from bondage, rejoices and cries out: "You, Christ, are the Giver of Resurrection to all."

Kondak of our church, Tone 3

She who was previously barren now bears the Forerunner of Christ who is the fulfillment of every prophecy. For the prophets proclaimed beforehand that having laid hands on Him in the Jordan, he would be manifest as Prophet, Preacher and Forerunner of the Word of God.

Kondak to the Ven. Paul, Tone 3

Assembling today, in hymns we praise you, the never-waning luminary of the noetic Sun; for you did shine forth upon those in the darkness of ignorance, leading all to the divine heights, O venerable Paul, adornment of the Thebans, steadfast foundation of the fathers and the venerable.

Glory …
Kondak to the Ven. John, Tone 2

Loving the riches which cannot be stolen, O all-wise John, you hated the riches of your parents; and, holding the Gospel in your hands, you followed after Christ God, praying unceasingly for us all.

Now and Ever …
Theotokion, Tone 6

Protection of Christians not put to shame,/ unwavering Mediation before the Creator;/ despise not the prayer of sinners,/ but because you are good, quickly come to help us who call on you in faith./ Be swift to intercede and make haste to supplicate, Birth-Giver of God,/ who always protects those who honor you.

Priest: Let us be attentive! Peace be with you all!

Reader: And with your spirit!

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The Prokimen in Tone 1: Let Your mercy, Lord, be upon us, as we have set our hope in You.

Choir: (repeats the prokimen)

Reader: Vs: Rejoice in the Lord, you Righteous. Praise befits the upright.

Choir: (repeats the prokimen)

Reader: The Second Prokimen in Tone 8: The saints shall boast in glory, and they shall rejoice upon their beds.

Choir: The saints shall boast in glory, and they shall rejoice upon their beds.

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Letter of St. Paul to the Colossians.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Letter of St. Paul to the Galatians.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Priest: Peace be with you.

Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Alleluia Verses

Verse: God gives me retribution and has subdued peoples under me.

Verse: He magnifies the salvation of the king and deals mercifully for His anointed, for David and for his seed forever.

Verse: Blessed is the man that fears the Lord; in His commandments shall he greatly delight.

Communion Hymns

Praise the Lord from the Heavens; praise Him in the Highest. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

Rejoice in the Lord, you Righteous; praise befits the upright. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
