Children Praying forChildren
A Campaign of Prayer, Solidarity and Compassion
Launched in 2024, this campaign seeks to unify our communities in raising awareness about the war’s impact on Ukrainian children and to create a sacred space where children can come together in prayer, solidarity, and compassionate action. It spotlights the plight of children abducted by the Russian government from occupied territories.
Help Bring Ukrainian ChildrenHome and Heal Their Futures
A fundraising campaign to raise $100,000 by November 20, World Children’s Day to support efforts to bring Ukrainian children home and provide the rehabilitation and care they need upon their return.
Why Have the Children Praying for Children?
Why Should People Care?
- To raise awareness about the effect of Russia’s war on Ukraine’s children.
- Russia has kidnapped at least 20,610 children (ages infants to 17) from their Ukrainian homes, schools, and families, and taken them to Russia or Russian-occupied territory.
- 2,436 have been returned/rescued to date.
What Happens to These Kidnapped Children?
- Illegally adopted – their identities erased/obscured, given new names and birthdates
- Reeducated – taught to hate Ukraine and everything Ukrainian
- Taught to believe that their families did not want them or that their families abandoned them
- “Russified” – turned into Russian children
- Militarized – sent to military training camps and when of age, sent to fight against Ukraine
What About Other Ukrainian Children?
- 727 children killed by Russian bombings/strikes to date
- 2,766 children injured by Russian bombings/strikes to date
- Approximately 1.6 million Ukrainian children live under occupation, and these children are also subject to indoctrination, Russification, militarization
-
2.6 million Ukrainian children are displaced (had to
leave their homes/towns for safety)
- 0.8 million are “internally” displaced, i.e. moved to safer areas within Ukraine
- 1.8 million are “externally” displaced, i.e. moved to other countries for safety
- Even though these children live in relative safety, their lives have been upended.
What Happened to Schools?
- Approximately 4,450 schools have been destroyed or damaged by Russian attacks.
- Approximately 100 new schools being built in Ukraine, underground, to provide greater protection from bombing and from threat of radiation.
- Many children are still attending school online, rather than in physical classrooms.
