July 9 – 5th Sunday after Pentecost. Tone 4
St. David of Thessalonica (540). St. John, bishop of the Goths in Crimea (ca. 787).
Rom. 10:1-10; Mt. 8:28 – 9:1;
Tropar Resurrectional, Tone 4
When the women disciples of the Lord learned from the angel the joyous message of Your Resurrection, they cast away the ancestral curse and with gladness told the apostles: death is overthrown. Christ God is risen, granting the world great mercy.
Tropar of our church, Tone 4
Prophet and Forerunner of the coming of Christ, we who honor you with love can find no manner of praising you worthily. For the barrenness of one who bore you and the silence of your father have been ended by your being born of divine grace and you have proclaimed to the world the Incarnation of the Son of God.
Tropar to St. David, Tone 8
In you, O father, that which was created in God's image was manifestly saved; for, taking up your cross, you followed after Christ, and laboring you taught us to disdain the flesh, in that it is transitory, but to care for the soul as a thing immortal. Wherefore, your spirit rejoices with the angels, O venerable David.
Kondak Resurrectional, Tone 4
My Savior and Redeemer as God arose from the tomb and delivered the earthborn from bondage. He has shattered the gates of Hades and, as Master, He has risen on the Third Day.
Kondak of our church, Tone 3
She who was previously barren now bears the Forerunner of Christ who is the fulfillment of every prophecy. For the prophets proclaimed beforehand that having laid hands on Him in the Jordan, he would be manifest as Prophet, Preacher and Forerunner of the Word of God.
Glory …
Kondak to St. David, Tone 1
An ever-blossoming garden, bearing the fruits of the virtues, you did appear in the tree of a grove, like a right melodious bird; and receiving the Lord, the Tree of life, in your heart all the more, and cultivating it like a garden, O divinely wise one, you have thereby nurtured us with grace. Always pray in our behalf, O most blessed David.
Now and Ever …
Theotokion, Tone 6
Protection of Christians not put to shame, unwavering Mediation before the Creator; despise not the prayer of sinners, but because you are good, quickly come to help us who call on you in faith. Be swift to intercede and make haste to supplicate, Birth-Giver of God, who always protects those who honor you.

Epistle
Deacon: Wisdom!
Reader: The reading is from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans.
Deacon: Let us be attentive.
Reader: Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, "The man who does those things shall live by them." But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?' " (that is, to bring Christ down from above) or, " 'Who will descend into the abyss?' " (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Priest: Peace be with you.
Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Verse: Bend Your bow and proceed prosperously, and reign because of truth, meekness and righteousness.
Verse: You have loved righteousness and hated iniquity.
Communion Hymns
Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the Highest. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
