June 2 – Fifth Sunday of Pascha. Tone 4

The Samaritan Woman. Martyr Thalelaeus at Aegae in Cilicia and companions, Martyrs Alexander and Asterius (284). Martyr Asclas of Egypt (287).

Acts 11:19-26, 29-30; Jn. 4:5-42;

Tropar, Tone 4

When the women disciples of the Lord learned from the angel the joyous message of Your Resurrection, they cast away the ancestral curse and with gladness told the apostles: death is overthrown. Christ God is risen, granting the world great mercy.

Tropar of Mid-Pentecost, Tone 8

Savior, in the middle of the feast, fill my thirsting soul with the waters of piety, as You cried to all: "If anyone thirsts, come to Me and drink!" Christ God, Fountain of our Life, glory to You.

Glory … Kondak, Tone 8

The Samaritan woman came to the well in faith. She saw You, the Water of Wisdom, and drank abundantly. She inherited the Kingdom on High and is ever glorified.

Now and ever …
Kondak of Mid-Pentecost, Tone 4

Christ the God, the Creator and Master of All, cried to all in the middle of the Feast of the Law: "Come and draw the Water of Immortality!" We bow before You and faithfully cry out: "Grant us Your compassion, for You are the Wellspring of our Lives."

Priest: Let us be attentive! Peace be with you all!

Reader: And with your spirit!

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The Prokimen in Tone 3: Sing praises to our God, sing praises. Sing praises to our King, sing praises.

Choir: (repeats the prokimen)

Reader: Oh, clap your hands, all you nations; Shout to God with the voice of rejoicing.

Choir: (repeats the prokimen)

Reader: Sing praises to our God, sing praises.

Choir: Sing praises to our King, sing praises.

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Acts of the Apostles.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, those who were scattered after the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one but the Jews only. But some of them were men from Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord. Then news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch. When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord. For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul. And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. Then the disciples, each according to his ability, determined to send relief to the brethren dwelling in Judea. This they also did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

Priest: Peace be with you.

Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Verse: Stretch Your bow, and grant prosperity, and reign because of truth, gentleness, and righteousness.

Verse: You loved righteousness and hated lawlessness.

Instead of "It is right in truth"

The angel cried to the Lady Full of Grace: Rejoice, Pure Virgin. Again I say: Rejoice. Your Son is risen from His three days in the tomb. With Himself He has raised up all the dead: Rejoice, all peoples.

Irmos: Shine, Shine, O New Jerusalem, for the Glory of the Lord has shone on you. Exult now and be glad, O Zion and rejoice, Pure Birth-Giver of God, in the Resurrection of Your Son.

Instead of "We have seen the True light:"

Paschal Tropar: Christ is risen...

Instead of "Glory to the Father and to the Son …"

Paschal Tropar: Christ is risen... (3 times)

Communion Verses

Receive the Body of Christ; taste the Fountain of Immortality. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the Highest. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
