In Wisdom He Has Made Them All

The former president of the New York Academy of Sciences, Dr. A. Cressy Morrison, has stated that it is far fetched to believe that the universe just happened. His facts are intriguing. The earth rotates at just the right speed to support life. If instead of one thousand miles an hour it whirled at only one hundred miles per hour, days and nights would be ten times longer and this planet would alternately freeze and dry. No vegetation would survive.

Likewise, the sun's surface temperature is just the exact temperature needed to give the earth the right amount of heat preventing it from scorching everything on earth. The twenty-three degree tilt of the earth's axis is just right to contrive four annual seasons and prevent piling up continents of ice. The ocean's depth is just right to maintain the proper balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The moon is the proper distance to prevent the ocean from flooding the earth.

These delicate balances, says Dr. Morrison, could not happen by chance. No wonder the Psalmist could not contain himself from breaking out into praise: "How great, O Lord, are Thy works! In wisdom Thou hast made them all."

The great astronomer, Kirchner, had a friend who experienced doubts about the existence of God. Knowing that a simple illustration would be more effective than a long argument, Kirchner made a globe and placed it in his study. When his friend called to see him, he noticed the new globe and asked:

"Who made this globe?"

"Why," Kirchner replied, "it made itself"

His friend laughed at the joke. Whereupon Kirchner said, "You laugh at that as absurd. But it would be a thousand times easier to believe that this little globe made itself than to believe that the large one on which we live made itself."

Так само температура поверхні Сонця — це саме та температура, яка необхідна для того, щоб дати Землі потрібну кількість тепла, не дозволяючи їй спалювати все на землі. Нахил земної осі в двадцять три градуси якраз підходить для того, щоб тримати чотири річні сезони і запобігти нагромадженню континентів льоду. Глибина океану якраз підходить для підтримки належного балансу кисню і вуглекислого газу в атмосфері. Місяць – це правильна відстань, яка запобігає затопленню землі океаном.

Цей крихкий баланс, каже доктор Моррісон, не міг статися випадково. Не дивно, що Псалмоспівець не міг стриматися, щоб не вибухнути хвалою: «Які величні діла Твої, Господи! Все премудро створив Ти; повна земля творіння Твого."

У великого астронома Кіршнера був друг, який мав сумніви щодо існування Бога. Знаючи, що проста ілюстрація буде ефективнішою, ніж довга суперечка, Кіршнер зробив глобус і помістив його у свій кабінет. Коли його друг покликав його, він помітив новий глобус і запитав: — Хто зробив цей глобус? — Еге ж, — відповів Кіршнер, — він сама себе зробив. Його друг посміявся з жарту. На що Кіршнер сказав: «Ви смієтеся з цього як з абсурду. Але було б у тисячу разів легше повірити в те, що ця маленька куля створила себе, ніж повірити в те, що велика, на якій ми живемо, створила себе».

Sisterhood Semi-Annual Meeting

St. Mary's Sisterhood will hold their Semi-Annual meeting on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 5:30 PM in the Memorial Center. A simple supper will be provided following.

St. John's Church School

For 2025-26 we require Church School Registration to be able to order the right amount of material and make sure we have enough desks. We also expect regular attendance from each student so that we can move along with the planned curriculum. Please contact appropriate teacher to let her know that your child(ren) will miss a class and to ask for material to work at home.

First day of church school is September 14, 2025. After the Divine Liturgy we will have a small blessing and presentation of UOL Essay contest results.
