Браття, Бог і Отець Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, благословенний вовіки, знає, що я кажу правду. У Дамаску обласний правитель царя Арети стеріг місто Дамаск, щоб схопити мене, і мене в кошику спустили з вікна по стіні, і я уник його рук. Не корисно хвалитися мені, бо я прийду до видінь і одкровень Господніх. Знаю чоловіка у Христі, який чотирнадцять років тому (чи в тілі – не знаю, чи без тіла – не знаю: Бог ві дає) узятий був до третього неба. І знаю про такого чоловіка (тільки не знаю – в тілі, чи без тіла: Бог відає), що він був взятий в рай і чув невимовні слова, яких людині не можна переказати. Таким чоловіком можу хвалитись; собою ж не похвалюся, хіба тільки немочами моїми. А коли я захочу хвалитися, не буду безумний, бо скажу істину; але я утримуюсь, щоб ніхто не подумав про мене більше, ніж скільки в мені бачить або чує від мене. А щоб я не звеличувався надзвичайністю одкровень, дано мені жало у плоть, ангел сатани, пригнічувати мене, щоб я не величався. Тричі благав я Господа про те, щоб удалив його від мене. Але Господь сказав мені: досить для тебе благодаті Моєї, бо сила Моя вершиться в немочі. І тому я значно охочіше буду хвалитися немочами своїми, щоб перебувала в мені сила Христова.

З Першого Посла́ння до Тимофія Свято́го Апо́стола Павла́ чита́ння (1:12-17)

Сину Тимофіє, дякую Христу Ісусу, Господу нашому, Котрий дав мені силу, що Він визнав мене вірним, поставивши на служіння, мене, колишнього хулителя і гонителя і кривдника, але помилуваного тому, що так чинив за невіданням, у невір'ї; благодать же Господа нашого (Ісуса Христа) відкрилася в мені щедро з вірою і любов'ю у Христі Ісусі. Вірне і всякого прийняття гідне слово, що Христос Ісус прийшов у світ спасти грішників, серед яких я перший. І як хочете, щоб з вами чинили люди, так і ви чиніть з ними. І коли ви любите тих, хто вас любить, яка вам за те подяка? Бо і грішники люблять тих, хто їх любить. І якщо ви робите добро тим, хто вам робить добро, яка вам за те подяка? бо і грішники те саме роблять. І коли позичаєте тим, від кого сподіваєтесь одержати назад, яка за те вам подяка, бо і грішники позичають грішникам, щоб стільки ж одержати. Але ви любіть ворогів ваших, добро творіть, і позичайте, нічого не сподіваючись; і буде вам нагорода велика і будете синами Всевишнього; бо Він добрий і до невдячних і злих. Отже, будьте милосердні, як і Отець ваш милосердний.

Від Іоанна 10:9-16

Я є двері: хто через Мене увійде, той спасеться, і увійде, і вийде, і пасовище знайде. Злодій приходить тільки для того, щоб украсти, вбити й погубити. Я прийшов для того, щоб мали життя, і мали з достатком. Я є пастир добрий: пастир добрий життя своє покладає за овець. А наймит, не пастир, якому вівці не свої, побачивши, що йде вовк, залишає вівці і втікає, а вовк хапає і розганяє їх. А наймит втікає, бо він наймит, і не турбується про овець. Я є пастир добрий; і знаю Моїх, і Мої знають Мене. Як знає Мене Отець, так і Я знаю Отця; і душу Мою покладаю за вівці. Є у Мене й інші вівці, які не з цього двору, і тих Мені треба привести: і вони почують голос Мій, і буде одне стадо і один Пастир.

Hieromartyr Cyprian, Virgin Martyr Justina,
and Martyr Theoctistus, of Nicomedia

Saint Cyprian was a pagan and a native of Antioch. From his early childhood his misguided parents dedicated him to the service of the pagan gods. From the age seven until he was thirty, Cyprian studied at the leading centers of paganism: on Mount Olympus; in the cities of Argos and Tauropolis; in the Egyptian city of Memphis; and at Babylon. Once he attained eminent wisdom in pagan philosophy and the sorcerer's craft, he was initiated into the pagan priesthood on Mount Olympus. Having discovered great power by summoning unclean spirits, he beheld the Prince of Darkness himself, speaking with him and receiving from him a host of demons to serve him.

After returning to Antioch, Cyprian was revered by the pagans as a prominent pagan priest, amazing people with his ability to cast spells, to summon pestilence and plagues, and to conjure up the dead. He brought many people to ruin, teaching them to serve the demons, and how to cast magic spells.

The holy virgin Justina lived in Antioch. After turning her own father and mother away from the error of paganism and leading them to faith in Christ, she dedicated herself to the Heavenly Bridegroom and spent her time in fasting and prayer. When the young man Aglaidas (Αγλαΐδας or Αγλαϊος) proposed marriage to her, the saint refused, for she wished to remain a virgin. Aglaidas sought Cyprian's help. He said that he would arrange for Justina's heart to become filled with lust for the young man. No matter what Cyprian tried, he accomplished nothing, since the Saint overcame all the wiles of the devil by prayer and fasting.

Cyprian sent an unclean spirit to attack the holy virgin, and to arouse carnal passions in her, but she overcame them by the power of the Sign of the Cross, and by fervent prayer to the Lord.

Even though one of the demons, and Cyprian himself, assumed various guises by the power of sorcery, they were unable to influence Saint Justina, who was guarded by her firm faith in Christ. All the spells were dissipated, and the demons fled at the mention of Justina's name.

Cyprian, in his rage, sent down pestilence and plague upon Justina's family and upon the entire city, but this was thwarted by her prayer. The sorcerer brought tribulation not only upon Justina and her family, but upon the entire city as well. Rumors spread that the city was being punished because Justina would not wed Aglaias. Several people went to her and demanded that she marry Aglaias so that Cyprian would not punish them with more afflictions. Justina calmed them and assured them that soon the misfortunes which Cyprian caused with the help of the demons would end. Saint Justina prayed to God, the power of the demons was destroyed, and everyone was healed of their illnesses and afflictions.

People began to praise Christ, and to mock Cyprian and his sorcery. Convinced that the devil was powerless against the Sign of the Cross, and trembled at the name of Christ, Cyprian came to his senses and realized that he had been corrupted by becoming a sorcerer, and participating in every sort of wickedness, doing harm to others and deceiving them. He killed many with his spells and potions, and he murdered many men and women as sacrificial offerings to the demons. He was already a partaker of the portion of the demons, and if he had died at that moment, he would have been cast into the depths of Hell. The Lord, however, in His infinite compassion, saved him from the abyss.

Saint Cyprian saw that the devil whom he served was afraid of Christ. The Evil One admitted that he was unable to conquer the maiden because he was afraid of "a certain sign" upon her.

"If you take fright at even the mere shadow of the Cross and if the mere name of Christ makes you tremble," said Cyprian, "then what will you do when Christ Himself stands before you?"

The devil then threw himself upon the pagan priest and attempted to beat and strangle him. For the first time, Saint Cyrian tested the power of the Sign of the Cross and the name of Christ, guarding himself from the fury of the Enemy. Afterward, he went to the local bishop Anthimos in profound repentance, and threw all of his books into the flames. The very next day, he went into the church, and did not want to leave it, even though he had not yet been baptized.

By his efforts to follow after righteousness, Saint Cyprian understood the great power of faith in Christ, making up for more than thirty years of service to Satan. Seven days after his Baptism he was tonsured as a reader, on the twelfth day, subdeacon, on the thirtieth, deacon. After a year, he was ordained as a priest. Shortly after this, Saint Cyprian was elevated to the rank of bishop.

Saint Cyprian converted so many pagans to Christ that in his diocese no one was left to offer sacrifice to idols, and the pagan temples fell into disuse. Saint Justina withdrew to a monastery and was chosen as its Superior.

During the persecution against Christians under Enperor Diocletian, Bishop Cyprian and Saint Justina were arrested and brought to Nicomedia, where after horrible tortures they were beheaded with the sword. Saint Cyprian, fearful that the holy virgin's courage might falter if she saw him put to death, asked for time to pray. Saint Justina inclined her neck and was beheaded first.

After seeing the torments of Saint Justina, a soldier named Theoktistos fell at Cyprian's feet and declared himself a Christian, and he was beheaded with them.

The Hieromartyr Cyprian, the Virgin Martyr Justina, and the Martyr Theoktistos suffered for Christ at Nicomedia in the year 304.

The relics of Saints Cyprian and Justina are to be found in various places around the world: at Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos; in the church named for these Saints at Menikos Nicosia; in the Monastery which is dedicated to them at Phylḗ, Attica; in the Monastery of Panagia Panachrantou (the All-Holy Theotokos) on the Greek island of Andros; in the Zlătari church (Calea Victoriei 14, Bucharest Romania).

Святий Кипріан був язичником, родом з Антіохії. Ще в ранньому дитинстві батьки віддали його на служіння язичницьким богам. До тридцяти років Кипріан навчався в найбільших центрах язичництва - на горі Олімп, у містах Аргосі і Таврополі, в єгипетському місті Мемфісі і у Вавилоні. Вивчивши премудрість язичницької філософії і чаклунства, він був висвячений на Олімпі в жерці.

Він отримав велику силу покликання нечистих духів. В Антіохії Кипріан дивував людей здатністю керувати стихіями, насилати хвороби і рани, викликати мерців. У тому самому місті жила християнка, дівчина по імені Іустина.

Вона прийняла хрещення разом з батьками, проводила життя в пості та молитві, а також дала обітницю безшлюбності. Коли юнак Аглаїд запропонував Іустині стати його дружиною, то свята мучениця відповіла відмовою. Аглаїд звернувся до Кипріана і просив його з допомогою чарів схилити Іустину до заміжжя.

Як не намагався Кипріан, нічого не міг зробити, тому що свята мучениця молитвою і постом руйнувала всі задуми диявола. Усі чари зникали навіть від імені святої дівчини. Киприан у гніві наслав хвороби на сім'ю Іустини і все місто, але й тут був переможений її молитвою.

Святий Кипраін побачив, що диявол якому він служив боявся Христа. Нечистий дух признався, що він не взмозі побороти дівчину бо він боявся «деякого знаку» який вона носила.

«Якщо ти боїшся лиш маленької тіні Хреста, і якщо від самого імені Христа ти трясешся,» сказав Кипріан, «тоді, що ти будеш робити коли сам Христос стане перед тобою?»

Диявол накинувся на поганського священика і хотів його побити і задушити. Уперше, святий Кипріан відчув силу знаку Хреста та імені Христа, захистивши себе від лютого ворога.

Кипріан усвідомив усю безпорадність диявола перед Господом і з глибоким покаянням прийшов до місцевого єпископа Анфіма і віддав на спалення всі свої книги.

На інший день він знаходився в церкві і не хотів виходити з неї, поки не прийняв святого хрещення. Через сім днів після хрещення він був поставлений у чтеця, на двадцятий день - в іподиякона, на тридцятий - у диякона, а через рік висвячений у священика. Незабаром святий Кипріан був возведений у сан єпископа. Свята Іустина пішла в монастир і була обрана ігуменею.

Під час гоніння на християн при імператорі Діоклетіані єпископ Кипріан та ігуменя Іустина були схоплені і привезені в Никомидію, де після жорстоких мук були обезголовлені. Воїн Феоктист побачив страждання святих і оголосив себе християнином. Він був страчений разом з ними.

Священномученик Кипріан, свята мучениця Іустина і святий мученик Феоктист були вбиті в Нікомидії в 304 році. Християни часто вдаються до молитовної допомоги цих святих у боротьбі з нечистими духами.

Terrorists never sleep nor do they allow others to live in peace.

Over the past eight days we have witnessed the death, destruction, pain, and suffering caused in Israel and Gaza as a result of Hamas' barbaric attack.  These eight days of war in the Middle East serve as a stark reminder of the six hundred days of continuous missile and drone attacks that our brothers and sisters in Ukraine have endured since Putin launched his unprovoked full-scale barbaric invasion in February 2022.   Imagine being under constant threat and attack in our own country, city or village since 2014 when the Russian terrorists first invaded Crimea nearly nine years ago.

Like the courageous people in Ukraine we must continue to stand together against evil and those who would compromise our American principles and values by cutting critical U.S. support for Ukraine.  As we continue our fundraising efforts to provide humanitarian assistance and support to our fellow Ukrainians we also remind our friends, neighbors and elected officials that we must all continue to stand strong with Ukraine in the defense of life, liberty and justice for us all.

The war in Ukraine remains a matter of serious and growing concern within the international community as discussed at many high level meetings taking place in Brussels, Washington and the UN in New York his past quarter.  Meanwhile our St. John's Humanitarian Committee raised $14,650 dollars this quarter to help support our new arrivals and the humanitarian work of charities working on the ground in Ukraine, including: the UOCofUSA, Sunflower of Peace, the Superhumans Center in Lviv, Together for Ukraine, and the Adopt a School in Ukraine Project.

Once again we take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks to our parishioners and friends for supporting our humanitarian efforts, with a special thank you to our St. Mary's Sisterhood for a $1000 donation and the loving support extended to our new arrivals.   May God bless all of our donors, supporters and advocates for Ukraine and those who are remembered and honored with donations to our humanitarian fund.     Слава Ісусу Христу!  Slava Ukraini!  Heroyam Slava!
