St. John the Faster - Преподобний Іоанн Постник

Propers for September 15, 2024

Sep. 15 – 12th Sunday after Pentecost. Tone 3

Martyr Mamas (275), and his parents, Martyrs Theodotus and Rufina (3rd c.). St. John the Faster, patriarch of Constantinople (595). 3,628 Martyrs who suffered at Nicomedia (3rd-4th c.).

1 Cor. 15:1-11; Mt. 19:16-26;
Rom. 8:28-39; Jn. 15:1-7

Tropar Resurrectional, Tone 3

Let the heavens rejoice. Let the earth be glad. For the Lord has shown strength with His Arm. He has trampled Death by death. He has become the First-born of the Dead. He has delivered us from the depths of Hades and has granted the world great mercy.

Tropar of our church, Tone 4

Prophet and Forerunner of the coming of Christ,/ we who honor you with love can find no manner of praising you worthily./ For the barrenness of one who bore you / and the silence of your father have been ended by your being born of divine grace / and you have proclaimed to the world / the Incarnation of the Son of God.

Tropar to Martyr, Tone 3

Divine offshoot of the Martyrs, / you followed their steps with longing, / and while proclaiming the Savior's Name, you were marvelous in the contest, / O wise and glorious Mámas; / entreat Christ God to grant us great mercy.

Tropar to Patriarch, Tone 4

In truth you were revealed to your flock as a rule of faith, / an image of humility and a teacher of abstinence; / your humility exalted you; / your poverty enriched you. / Hierarch Father John, / entreat Christ our God / that our souls may be saved.

Kondak Resurrectional, Tone 3

On this day You rose from the tomb, Merciful One, leading us from the gates of death. On this day Adam exults as Eve rejoices. With the prophets and patriarchs they unceasingly praise the divine majesty of Your Power.

Kondak of our church, Tone 3

She who was previously barren / now bears the Forerunner of Christ / who is the fulfillment of every prophecy. / For the prophets proclaimed beforehand / that having laid hands on Him in the Jordan, / he would be manifest as Prophet, / Preacher / and Forerunner of the Word of God.

Glory …
Kondak to Martyr, Tone 3

With the staff given to you by God, O Saint, / shepherd your people in life-giving pastures, / and crush unseen and fierce enemies beneath the feet of those who praise you; / for all those who are in danger have you as a fervent intercessor, O Mámas.

Now and ever ...
Theotokion, Tone 6

Protection of Christians not put to shame,/ unwavering Mediation before the Creator;/ despise not the prayer of sinners,/ but because you are good, quickly come to help us who call on you in faith./ Be swift to intercede and make haste to supplicate, Birth-Giver of God,/ who always protects those who honor you.

Epistles

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Priest: Peace be with you.

Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Verse: Lord, in You have I hoped; let me never be put to shame.

Verse: Be a God of protection for me, a house of refuge, to save me.

Verse: The righteous shall flourish as a palm tree and shall increase like the cedars of Lebanon.

Communion Verses

Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the Highest. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Rejoice greatly in the Lord, O righteous ones; praise is fitting for the upright. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
