2 Cor. 4:6-15; Lk. 6:17-23;

Resurrectional Tropar, Tone 2

When You descended to death, Life Immortal, You slew Hades with the splendor of Your Divinity. And when from the depths You raised the dead, all the Powers of Heaven cried out: Giver of life, Christ our God, glory to You.

Tropar of our church, Tone 4

Prophet and Forerunner of the coming of Christ,/ we who honor you with love can find no manner of praising you worthily./ For the barrenness of one who bore you / and the silence of your father have been ended by your being born of divine grace / and you have proclaimed to the world / the Incarnation of the Son of God.

Tropar to Venerable Fathers, Tone 2

When you went down into the tombs and shut yourselves in, you put to death the passions of the flesh and were buried together with Christ, O God-bearing ones. You tear down the strongholds of the devil in the places beneath the earth. Therefore the Angels bestow crowns upon you from Heaven.

Tropar to St. Chariton, Tone 8

By a flood of tears you made the desert fertile, / and your longing for God brought forth fruits in abundance./
By the radiance of miracles you illumined the whole universe! / Our Father Chariton, pray to Christ God to save our souls!

Resurrectional Kondak, Tone 2

Hades became fearful, Almighty Savior, seeing the miracle of Your Resurrection from the tomb. The dead arose and all creation, with Adam, beheld this and rejoiced with You and the world, my Savior, praises You forever.

Kondak of our church, Tone 3

She who was previously barren / now bears the Forerunner of Christ / who is the fulfillment of every prophecy. / For the prophets proclaimed beforehand / that having laid hands on Him in the Jordan, / he would be manifest as Prophet, / Preacher / and Forerunner of the Word of God.

Kondak to Venerable Fathers, Tone 2

The choir of ascetics, gathered together in spirit, let us behold with the eyes of the mind. Come, O people, let us honor them with praises, and, bowing before their relics, let us bring them gifts of love, for they are intercessors before God and pray for our souls.

Glory …
Kondak to St. Chariton, Tone 2

You delighted in the monastic life, divinely-wise one / and conquered the bodily passions; / you increased in faith, blossoming as the tree of life in the midst of Paradise, / most blessed and holy Chariton!

Now and Ever …
Theotokion, Tone 6

Protection of Christians not put to shame,/ unwavering Mediation before the Creator;/ despise not the prayer of sinners,/ but because you are good, quickly come to help us who call on you in faith./ Be swift to intercede and make haste to supplicate, Birth-Giver of God,/ who always protects those who honor you.

Epistles

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Second Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying. In Damascus the governor, under Aretas the king, was guarding the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desiring to arrest me; but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped from his hands. It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord: I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven. And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows— how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities. For though I might desire to boast, I will not be a fool; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, lest anyone should think of me above what he sees me to be or hears from me. And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Second Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So then death is working in us, but life in you. And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed and therefore I spoke," we also believe and therefore speak, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.

Priest: Peace be with you.

Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Verse: May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble. May the Name of the God of Jacob protect you.

Verse: Lord, save the king and hear us on the day we call out to You.

Verse: Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments.

Communion Hymns

Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the highest. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Rejoice greatly in the Lord, O righteous ones; praise is fitting for the upright. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel Reading

Lk. 6:17-23

And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all. Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said: "Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven.
