Propers for September 10, 2023

Sep. 10 – 14th Sunday after Pentecost. Tone 5

Ven. Moses the Black of Scete (400). Righteous Anna the Prophetess and Daughter of Phanuel, who met the Lord at the Temple in Jerusalem (1st c.). Synaxis of the Saints of the Kyiv Caves whose relics repose in the Far Cave of St. Theodosius. Uncovering of the relics of St. Job of Pochaiv (1651).

1 Cor. 16:13-24; Mt. 21:33-42;

Tropar Resurrectional, Tone 5

Let us, the faithful, praise and worship the Word, Co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, born for our salvation of the Virgin. In His Good Will He was lifted up on the Cross in the flesh to suffer death and to raise the dead by His glorious Resurrection.

Tropar of our church, Tone 4

Prophet and Forerunner of the coming of Christ, we who honor you with love can find no manner of praising you worthily. For the barrenness of one who bore you and the silence of your father have been ended by your being born of divine grace and you have proclaimed to the world the Incarnation of the Son of God.

Tropar to Ven. Job, Tone 4

Taking the yoke of Christ upon yourself from your youth, O Venerable Father Job, / for many years you contested in the field of piety at Ugornitsky Monastery on the island of Dubensk; / and arriving at Pochaiv Mountain, marked by the healing footprint of the Most Holy Theotokos, / you often enclosed yourself in a narrow rock cave, for the sake of divine contemplation and prayers. / Strengthened by the grace of God, / you labored courageously for the good of Christ's Church and of your community, / against the enemies of Orthodoxy, and for Christian piety, / as well as instructing a multitude of monks, / whom you brought as victors to our Master and God. / Entreat Him that our souls may be saved.

Tropar to Kyiv Caves Fathers, Tone 4

Today, with the whole assembly of the Venerable Monks, / we honor the noetic sun and the radiant moon of the founding Fathers of the Caves; / for they illumine the heavens of the Church, / and enlighten those who toil in the darkness of the passions. / By their prayers, they grant help from Christ God in all sorrows, and they pray for the deliverance our souls.

Kondak Resurrectional, Tone 5

You descended into Hades, my Savior, destroying its gates as the Almighty, resurrecting the dead as Creator and destroying the sting of Death. You have delivered Adam from the curse, Lover of all Mankind. Therefore, we all cry out to You: Lord, save us.

Kondak of our church, Tone 3

She who was previously barren now bears the Forerunner of Christ who is the fulfillment of every prophecy. For the prophets proclaimed beforehand that having laid hands on Him in the Jordan, he would be manifest as Prophet, Preacher and Forerunner of the Word of God.

Kondak to Ven. Job, Tone 8

The imperishable treasure of your relics hidden under the ground have shone forth, O God-pleaser, / for you lived piously with faith in Christ our God, you attained the perfection of virtue, / and forsaking the pleasures of this temporal life in the cave of Pochaiv Mountain by fasting, prayers and holy contests, and because of these your body withered. / Now, having passed to God in peaceful and eternal rest, / you pray for all who come to you with faith. / Rejoice, all-praised Job, the God-pleaser and adornment of Pochaiv Monastery.

Glory …
Kondak to Kyiv Caves Fathers, Tone 8

Chosen from all sorts of God-pleasers, O Venerable Monks of the Caves, / you have shone forth in these hills by your virtues. / The earth has not hidden your deeds, but Heaven was opened to you. / Therefore, we offer hymns of praise to God, Who glorified you. / Since you have boldness, make intercession by your prayers, / that we who honor you may be delivered from all misfortunes, since you are our intercessors before God.

Now and Ever …
Theotokion, Tone 6

Protection of Christians not put to shame, unwavering Mediation before the Creator; despise not the prayer of sinners, but because you are good, quickly come to help us who call on you in faith. Be swift to intercede and make haste to supplicate, Birth-Giver of God, who always protects those who honor you.

Priest: Let us be attentive! Peace be with you all!

Reader: And with your spirit!

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The Prokimen in Tone 5: You, O Lord, shall protect us and preserve us from this generation forever.

Choir: (repeats the prokimen)

Reader: Verse: O Lord, save me for there is no longer any righteous man.

Choir: (repeats the prokimen)

Reader: The Second Prokimen in Tone 7: Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His holy ones.

Choir: Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His holy ones.

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Second Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee. Moreover I call God as witness against my soul, that to spare you I came no more to Corinth. Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy; for by faith you stand. But I determined this within myself, that I would not come again to you in sorrow. For if I make you sorrowful, then who is he who makes me glad but the one who is made sorrowful by me? And I wrote this very thing to you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow over those from whom I ought to have joy, having confidence in you all that my joy is the joy of you all. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.

Deacon: Wisdom!

Reader: The reading is from the Second Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians.

Deacon: Let us be attentive.

Reader: Brethren, it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So then death is working in us, but life in you. And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed and therefore I spoke," we also believe and therefore speak, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.

Priest: Peace be with you.

Reader: And with your spirit. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Verse: Of Your mercies O Lord, I will sing forever; unto generation and generation I will proclaim Your Truth with my mouth.

Verse: You have said: Mercy will be established forever and My Truth will be prepared in the heavens.

Verse: Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments.

Communion Hymns

Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the Highest. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

The righteous man shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of any evil report. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
